Cognitive testing can be used to objectively identify potential impairment, allowing providers to better understand a patient’s brain health. By mapping these performance patterns to domains commonly impacted in disorders like dementia (memory) or ADHD (executive function), providers gain valuable data to guide diagnostic and treatment decisions.

But with so many conditions commonly associated with cognitive effects, how do providers know which tests to use to evaluate which conditions? Is there a single tool they should leverage, or do they need to look for condition-specific tests?

Creyos is a comprehensive digital cognitive testing platform because it lets providers completely customize their assessments for more targeted evaluation of suspected conditions. Providers can assess patients confidently knowing that the testing protocol they’re administering is backed by research linking each task or domain of cognition to certain health conditions and is therefore designed specifically for their needs and their patients.

Custom assessments are also a critical part of providing personalized care. A personalized approach to cognitive health guides providers towards the most effective treatments for individual patients. It also allows providers and patients to make informed decisions about their cognitive care. With Creyos, you can customize your assessments to deliver the tailored care your patients need.

Saving Time with Creyos Assessments

Customizing cognitive testing can also help you save significant time and effort through workflow optimization. For example, many clinics use Creyos to conduct comprehensive cognitive function tests as part of patient intake to gain a detailed, yet straightforward, baseline understanding of a patient's cognitive strengths and weaknesses before creating treatment or intervention plans.

In follow-up sessions—and as the patient progresses through their treatment plan—the provider can then set up quicker, custom assessments that focus on the cognitive domains relevant to that specific patient’s condition and treatment. With this feature, providers don’t have to conduct a complete assessment to track their patients’ progress. They can save critical time while still monitoring cognitive abilities that require the most focus.

How to Build Custom Cognitive Assessments on Creyos

Providers can use Creyos to quickly build and administer custom assessments directly within the platform, giving them the flexibility to quickly assess patients for a variety of cognitive concerns using any combination of the Creyos cognitive tasks. For more information on how Ceyos can be used to screen for a variety of conditions, explore our Condition-Based Research Guide.

There are two ways to build and administer custom assessments in the Creyos platform:

Create a One-Time Protocol

In this workflow, providers can administer a tailored set of tasks and questionnaires directly from a patient’s profile, ideal for one-time, on-the-fly assessments.

Step 1

Select the patient from the Patients List and click “Start Protocol” to administer all types of assessments. Select how you’d like to administer the assessment—on the current device, by generating a link, or by sending an email.

Step 2

Select “Administer Your Own Protocol.” From the drop-down, select “Create a One-Time Protocol.”

Step 3

From here, you can select tasks, as well as standardized questionnaires, to add to the protocol either individually or grouped by the cognitive domains in which they measure. To change the order of the tasks, click and drag the tasks into the order you’d like them to be administered.

Step 4

When a provider is satisfied with the tasks selected and the order in which they will be administered, they can then click “Next.” On the next screen, confirm the details of the assessment to administer the protocol via the method selected earlier.

Create New Protocol

This workflow lets providers save a custom protocol and efficiently administer it to multiple patients.

Step 1

From the Protocols section, click “Create New Protocol” and give the assessment a clear, descriptive name that aligns with your organization.

Step 2

Select the tasks and questionnaires that you would like to include in the assessment. Click and drag to change the order in which they are administered.

Step 3

Click ‘Save’ to confirm the details of the assessment. Once saved, the custom assessment will appear in the Protocols drop-down, making it easy to administer consistently across patients, streamline workflows, and ensure standardized data collection.

Key Takeaway

Custom assessments give providers the necessary flexibility so that they can optimize their workflows, save time, and personalize care to their patient population. Providers are empowered with objective data to make confident diagnoses and care decisions, knowing that the assessments they use are tailored to the specific needs of their patients and their practice.

Creyos makes administering custom assessments easy and fast, so providers can put time back into their day and spend it where it matters most, caring for their patients.

Frequently asked questions

Can you customize Creyos assessments?

Yes! You can easily administer custom assessments on Creyos, or you can leverage the pre-built assessment protocols for personalized healthcare.

What cognitive domains does Creyos test?

Each Creyos cognitive task assesses a specific area of cognition, outlined in the Condition-Based Research Guide. Broadly speaking, the tasks measure general cognitive domains, including short-term memory, reasoning, concentration, and verbal ability.

How long does a Creyos assessment take?

The length of a Creyos assessment depends on the specific assessment chosen or the tasks added. Most assessments take less than 20 minutes; the Creyos dementia screener takes less than 5 minutes to complete, and individual tasks can take as little as two minutes.
