Today is a big day for the Cambridge Brain Sciences community: Cambridge Brain Sciences is now Creyos.
Why this change?
To understand where we’re going, there’s value in looking at where we’ve been.
Our journey first began three decades ago with the pioneering neuroscience research of Dr. Adrian Owen at Cambridge University. Then, in 2009, Cambridge Brain Sciences was created as a web-based platform for members of the public and the scientific community to assess cognitive function using Adrian’s computerized tests of memory, attention, verbal ability, reasoning, and planning. In 2010, Adrian won an unprecedented $10 million grant—the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Cognitive Neuroscience and Imaging at Western University’s Brain and Mind Institute. He continued to rigorously test and validate—through numerous landmark peer-reviewed publications—the 12 core cognitive tasks.
The company you know of today began in 2014, when Adrian joined forces with our President and CEO Marc Lipton, who has a long track record of building businesses, as well as a passion for neuroscience. Since then, the Cambridge Brain Sciences normative database of cognitive task scores has continued to grow—now containing 12+ million scores spanning ages from 6 to 90 and beyond—and to the best of our knowledge, is the world’s largest normative database of cognitive function. Beyond the data, Cambridge Brain Sciences tasks have been used in, and validated by, 300+ peer-reviewed published papers—the large majority of which were published by independent institutions with no ties to the company. In short, the Cambridge Brain Sciences—now Creyos—cognitive tasks were well-validated long before a commercial entity existed.
Fast forward to 2022 and use of the tasks has changed considerably from the early days. Today, thousands of healthcare providers spanning many different disciplines (and, still, many researchers) are thriving members of the Creyos community—and while our decade-old mission, vision, and brand reflected our academic past, it no longer represented the company we’ve become, nor the communities we now serve. Our product has also evolved considerably—beyond offering reliable, validated, and engaging cognitive tasks, digital versions of many standard patient health questionnaires are also now available to enable clinicians to deliver faster, better, measurement-based care.
The Creyos name is something new to describe something that has been at the core of what we do since our humble beginnings: our commitment to making sure that every assessment sent, every report received, and every insight used to help draw conclusions about brain health is rooted in scientific credibility. Creyos pays homage to the credibility in our service that you have come to trust—essentially, credibility is our ethos. Creyos.
How this change affects you
The name change from Cambridge Brain Sciences to Creyos is merely the beginning. Starting in a few weeks, you'll receive several new features added to our leading brain health assessment platform, Creyos Health, that will deliver on our mission: developing software that harnesses the latest advances in neuroscience, allowing you to better measure and manage brain health. The first of these features is a brand new user interface that is much easier to use, alongside a host of other new features that will significantly enhance your experience.
